Virtual Conference Auction
The team hopes you’ll send in your offerings sooner than later so folks can start to browse long before our auction which is held on the final day of our annual virtual convention. We will need to have your donations no later than September 20 each year so we can prepare for the event and so we can put the item lists in alternative formats and have them delivered to all of you in a timely fashion. Last year was one of our best years ever. We hope this year we can top this number. The fund development team thanks all of you in advance for your donations.
Let Independence Ring!
It’s finally here. We told you in The PCB Advocate this fall That we would have a big announcement about a fund raising opportunity from Blind Girl Designs.
Well, the gear is ready to go, just in time for the holidays and the biggest celebration our country’s ever known. With an iconic design featuring the Liberty Bell and the phrase “Let Independence Ring” the gear gives us an opportunity to celebrate our independence as blind people and honor the 250th anniversary of America’s independence. As described below, the gear’s design promotes Pennsylvania, making it ideal for any person, young or old, blind or sighted, residing here now or in the past.
- Shop for yourself!
- Shop for your family!
- Shop for holiday gifts!
- Shop for Winter!
- Shop for Summer!
- Tell your friends so that they can do the same!
We have something for every season.
Here is the description of the design on all of the items from Tricia Waechter of Blind Girl Designs.
Let’s support the Pennsylvania Council of the Blind with their fabulous fundraiser which reflects upon the birth of our country. The print features the iconic Liberty Bell In the center of the print, and above the bell in the same font that the constitution was printed in, it says” LET INDEPENDENCE RING!” Beneath the words, the sentence is spelled out in tactile braille.
On either side of the Liberty Bell there are six red stars, and right below there’s one white star signifying Pennsylvania and its role in tying together the 13 colonies to create this nation. Around the white star is a blue Keystone shape, which is a geometric shape. A keystone is a shape that means all other pieces lean on it for stability. We are taking note of the importance of Pennsylvania and the formation of this country. Pennsylvania is widely known and beloved as the Keystone state.
At the bottom of the print, also in that same American constitution font, it proudly proclaims the word “Pennsylvania” In a bold white font. Below that is Pennsylvania in tactile braille.
We love this print, because of the fact that it actually has red, white, and blue mixed into it, as well as the fact that the font is the same font that the constitution of the United States, and the Declaration of Independence were written in. This is such a beautiful and historic print.
