Website Guidelines and Legal

The Basics

Your Communication Team is responsible for website layout and content, while your Technology Access Team is responsible for development and testing. Belinda Eigen serves as our paid developer/webmaster and Autumn Imhoff serves as our posting administrator. Together, the Communications Team Liaison (currently, Will Grignon), the Technology Team Liaison (TBD), Belinda, and Autumn form the PCB Website Team.

Layout and Functionality

The www.pcb1.org website is designed with ease of access, navigability, and user-friendliness in mind. To this end, the Website Team has built a clean, direct, and logical website, with no distracting, impeding, or unnecessary clutter.

Image submissions

All images must be submitted with an alt-tag caption, briefly describing the image and identifying persons captured in the image. If your image submission is not accompanied by an alt-tag caption, it will not be posted.

Currently, the website does not have the technical capability for generating audio description of videos, hence, you are encouraged to do your best to convey the purport of a video with a text description.

If you use images or videos that you have not produced, you must still follow alt-tag and description rules set forth above, as well as ensure that your posting does not violate copyright laws or use restrictions.

Your responsibilities

The Board, each team, each chapter and affiliate, and the Director is solely responsible for the content of its page. You are responsible for the appearance, the accuracy, the completeness, the currency, and the legality of all content. Hence, you are responsible for proofing and updating everything that appears on your webpage.

The Website Team shall facilitate posting and assist with the resolution of technical issues, but it performs no editorial function, claims no responsibility for content, or accepts any liability for typos, errors, or obsolete data.

The Website Team does, however, reserve the right to deny posting of any obscene, libelous, or offensive material. Should you dispute a denial of posting, you may appeal the denial to the Communications Team for adjudication.

The Process

When you have material that is ready for posting, simply send it in an email to Autumn at pcboffice@pcb1.org. In the subject line, state your entity name and the text, “website posting.” In the email, tell Autumn:

On what page the material should go

Where on the page the material should go

And what (if any) content it is replacing/updating, by including the material to be replaced then the material that will be replacing it.

Autumn will let you know via Reply email that your material has been posted. Once you receive Autumn’s confirmatory email, please check your webpage and determine if the posting complies with your submission request.

We ask that you bundle your webpage changes so that we can most efficiently and effectively use Autumn’s posting skills.

Commercial activity on your page

PCB recognizes that various entities within the PCB network will, from time to time, engage in fundraising activities and that such activities may result in commercial activity on an entity’s webpage. Such fundraising commercial activity is permitted on your webpage, so long as you clearly indicate that it is a fundraiser, who is doing the fundraising, who will benefit from the fundraising, and whether participation and/or donations are tax-deductible.

Commercial activity promoting products or services not related to blindness or vision loss is prohibited on your webpage.

Products or services related to blindness or vision loss may be promoted on your webpage, so long as such promotion is part of an informational article, advocacy effort, or personal story. Such promotion must be accompanied by a disclaimer: Products and services promoted on this webpage are not necessarily endorsed by the Pennsylvania Council of the Blind.

Technical Difficulties with Your Page

Again, the Website Team is not responsible for the content of your webpage: you are. Should your webpage experience technical difficulties, contact Belinda at
