At the 2014 convention, our committee hosted a workshop on the new United English Braille (UEB) Code that will take effect on January 1, 2016. Due to the demand to learn more about the changes to the current braille code, we decided to offer another opportunity to hear about the modifications via a telephone-conference-call training. Approximately fifteen people registered for the training, which was held on February 11.
Both Louise Chuha and May Davis were the presenters. Since the attendees pre-registered, they were able to follow along with braille handouts distributed ahead of time. This worked well because participants could actually touch the braille and feel the changes as the presenters described them. The training went very smoothly and everyone was able to ask questions at the end of the presentation.
During the UEB training call, May Davis mentioned the Braille Authority of North America’s free publication, “The UEB Reader.” This is a small book containing a review of the code, and several sample documents written in UEB.
