9:00 AM Podcasting with a Purpose, Developing your own Passion Project, Thomas Reid, producer of Reid My Mind Radio. Thomas will discuss how we all can use our inherent interests or hobbies for fun, advocacy, and personal fulfillment. This presentation will include ways to identify your native interests and develop a plan of action for starting your own project. Thomas will share other lessons gained, including those aiding in his own adjustment to becoming blind as an adult.
9:40 AM Thriving Blind: A Parent’s Perspective, Kristin Smedley, Author of Thriving Blind.
Kristin Smedley’s two sons were diagnosed as blind when they were each just four months old. Having no experience with blindness, Kristin expected a life of challenge for her boys. However, eventually she met a few people that would change her perception of what is possible for those navigating the world without sight. She decided to set extraordinary expectations for her sons, equipping them with tools and resources to navigate their world. In Kristin’s recently released book: Thriving Blind, she spotlights twelve people who are not just surviving blindness but thriving. She will share her journey and life lessons with us.

In his book, Vision in the Dark, Dr. Watson tells his story of self-determination and positive self-image as he overcame many of life’s challenges. Whether you were born blind or lost sight later, maintaining good self-image can be very difficult among society’s notions of what life is like for “the blind” and “the disabled.” Join Dr. Watson as he explores strategies to cast off other’s misperceptions and become confident in your own abilities.

As the founder of “Bold Blind Beauty,” a web business and blog, and CAPTIVATING! Magazine, a digital lifestyle magazine for people of all abilities, no one is challenging beliefs like Steph McCoy. She’ll share her story and her passion for creating a world where every person is valued and included.
