By Debbie Rozear LVCB President
On Saturday, May 17, 2014, the chapters within the northeast region of PCB conducted their annual meeting which was hosted by the Lehigh Valley Council of the Blind. There were approximately 35 people in attendance.
We started off our morning with registration and a continental breakfast. There was plenty of time for everyone to socialize when they arrived shortly after the doors opened. We began promptly at 10 a.m. starting with each person announcing who they were and which chapter they were from. LVCB President Debbie Rozear presided over the event.
The LVCB mission statement was read and speakers followed. There was an update from PCB Executive Director John Horst and Tony Swartz, President of PCB. Tom Reid followed with a preview of what is upcoming at the 2014 PCB Conference and Convention. Presidents from each chapter took a few minutes to give some highlights from their group.
There were several other topics addressed throughout the day. One was a talk about emergency preparedness. LVCB led a discussion about putting together a hot dog fundraiser and provided a demonstration. Christie Gilson spoke about being appointed to a committee by President Obama. PSA Healthcare presented about their agency which covers most of PA. Two members demonstrated assistive products: one did the Seeing Eye GPS app and another shared the ScripTalk, a talking prescription reader.
We had a 50/50 drawing which was won by June Horst. A basket donated by PSA was won by Carol Swartz. The day ended at 3:00 p.m. It was a great success with many comments and compliments.
