Fundraising & More!

By George S. Holliday, Fund Development Leader

2017 has past and is in the books for the PCB Fund Development Team. We are gearing up for a great year of excitement for 2018.
To start the year, PCB distributed calendar raffle tickets. Tickets are still available in the PCB office. Remember that half of the proceeds go to chapters, creating a low risk and high reward fundraising opportunity. The winning number is based on the evening daily drawings of the Pennsylvania Lottery Pick 3 between April 1, 2018 and September 30, 2018. Prize amounts are: $75 on the 1st and 15th of each month; $125 on six holidays which include Easter, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Father’s Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day; and $30 on every other day. Let’s all work to improve our fundraising dollars from 2017, not just for PCB but for local chapters.

During the 2017 PCB state conference in Pittsburgh, members were introduced to the Monthly Monetary Support (MMS) fundraising contest with the winners receiving cash prizes. Participants were encouraged to enroll with ACB to contribute a minimum of $10 per month or to increase their current MMS amount. These donations are to be split 50/50 between ACB and PCB. The contest ended January 15, 2018. The winners were randomly selected during the February Fund Development conference call. First prize of $100 went to Mary Ann Grignon, and second prize of $50 went to Joseph Wasserman. For more information about the on-going MMS program, contact George Holliday at 215-796-9813 or George.holliday@comcast.net.

Again at the 2018 PCB Conference and Convention, the Fund Development Team will be holding an exciting live auction. It is never too early to begin thinking about and planning your, or your chapter’s contribution to the auction. I urge chapter presidents to bring up the topic of a chapter contribution at your next chapter meeting. Also consider whether there is a business in your area which would be willing to contribute an item.

What kind of items should be considered? Of course, products designed for individuals with vision loss are always popular. But our members have a wide variety of interests. Always keep in mind that gift baskets of tasty consumables and liquid refreshment are guaranteed to keep the bidding lively. Whatever your prize donation, please email its description and value to Tony Swartz, tbswartz@ptd.net.
