From the Fund Development Team

By Tony Swartz, Team Leader

With the 2016 PCB Conference upon us, I’d like to point out that other than the PCB Calendar Raffle, the conference provides PCB its only significant opportunity to raise funds to operate the organization. When PCB does fund raising at our conferences, however, you too are offered some interesting opportunities.

The PCB Live Auction, held on Friday evening of the convention weekend is an opportunity for you to support PCB while having a great time doing so. For those on our listserv, you already know of the interesting items available, but of course, there’s always some last minute surprises. Attend, bid, have a snack or two and your favorite beverage while looking for that certain treasure. For those unable to attend the conference, you may participate in the auction by phone. Call our conference line number at 712-432-0800 and enter the access code 200723 followed by the pound key. Please call just before 8 p.m.
Now for a bargain! You’ve heard of the PCB 16 ounce insulated travel mug with slide lid and grip handle featuring the PCB vintage logo and our website address? At this year’s conference we will be offering these sturdy insulated travel mugs at the bargain price of $6 for one and $10 for a pair. There are not that many left in our inventory, and when they are gone, they are gone for good. So stop by the PCB table in the exhibit Hall and pick up a mug or two while you still can.

I know, you’ve been meaning to get around to ordering the Daisy3 version of PCB’s True No Measure Cookbook on thumb drive. At the conference you’ll have the perfect opportunity to pick up your copy at the PCB table. Read by yours truly, each main category and sub category of meals, and even each recipe can be directly navigated to by using your NLS player or digital book reader. The cost is only $12.50. As we always say, with the True No Measure Cookbook, you too can prepare tasty meals and forget about measuring cups and spoons.

Take a chance, you really can’t lose! The PCB Room Rate 50/50 drawing is an opportunity to ensure yourself of a lower room rate when PCB conferences are held at hotels with higher sleeping room rates. Not only is the Room Rate fund of benefit to you and fellow members in the long run, but you may be in for a bit of luck in the short run by winning third, second, or even first prize. Chapter presidents, have you considered having your chapter purchase several tickets?

For some exciting breaking news, here’s an interesting opportunity! The Fund Development Team has been creating a new board game entitled Cross4. It’s a game of strategy and luck and those attending the conference will have the opportunity to test a prototype of the game. Come to the exhibit hall and try playing the game for yourself. Blair Wissinger will acquaint you with the game rules, and perhaps you might want to challenge Blair to a game.

As a reminder, with the holiday shopping season approaching, please consider visiting the AmazonSmile website at:
http://smile.amazon.com. There, take the opportunity to create an account and select the Pennsylvania Council of the Blind as the organization to which you’d like AmazonSmile to contribute.

So, with the conference right around the corner, the opportunities are all yours.
