Hear Ye Hear Ye Read All About It! The Pennsylvania Council of the Blind is gearing up to give away a number of first-timer scholarships! The 2018 PCB Conference and Convention is being held at the Green Tree Double Tree Hilton in Pittsburgh from October 18 through October 21 and we want you to join us!
You may qualify for one of our first-timer scholarships if you are a student of any age who is blind or visually impaired, if you are a person adjusting to a significant vision loss in the last five years, or if you are an active PCB member who has never been to our conference. If you fall into one of these three categories, don’t delay, apply today!
Why should you attend our conference? Well, in the interest of saving time, ink, and Braille dots, I’ll mention just a few of the most key reasons that I attend year after year even though I live 1,200 miles from Pennsylvania.
Each year I learn something new from the many well-prepared presentations throughout the weekend. I always make at least one new friend to whom I can relate regarding vision loss. With every year, I grow more confident in my ability to travel independently in a hotel and on public transportation. Well, ok, I do leave each conference with an emptier pocketbook because of the fantastic live auction held on Friday evening where we bid on anything from baked goods to jewelry to tech items. Best of all, for three solid days, I get to hang out with some cool people who also just happen to have vision loss.
So, hurry and apply for one of our scholarships and join us for an extraordinary weekend filled with friendship, fun, and information that will change the way you look at your own vision loss.
Our scholarships cover your ground transportation, double occupancy hotel accommodations, full conference registration including activity and meal options, etc. We will be holding a complimentary continental breakfast for all first-time attendees on Friday morning. This will provide a special opportunity for fellowship with other first timers and seasoned PCB members.
to apply for a first-timer scholarship, simply send an email with your name, address, phone number, email address if you have one, for which scholarship you are applying and a brief paragraph which talks about your personal reason for wishing to attend a PCB conference and convention.
