2019 Fund Development Activities

By George S. Holliday

During the past year, the PCB Fund Development Team sponsored several activities. Thanks to your participation, they were successful. So, keep up your great work in 2020.

Did you place your order from Loving Touch Connection? It is not too late! Here is a relaxing way to support PCB and enjoy a glass of wine or favorite juice or iced tea. Yes, you can purchase a 16-ounce iced tea glass, or a 21-ounce stemless wine/juice glass for only $20 each. The PCB Signature design includes the hand-painted PCB logo and the phrase: Peers Challenging Beliefs in print and raised Braille. Contact Kathy at 610-657-9869 to order.

Another great opportunity to support PCB during the holidays and throughout the year is through Smile.Amazon.com. When purchasing gifts for the holidays, birthday gifts or just casually shopping for yourself on Amazon, don’t forget to use Amazon Smile.

Once you search for and select Pennsylvania Council of the Blind as your designated charity, you never have to designate again. All your future purchases through Smile.Amazon.com will be credited to PCB. Since we’ve given instructions for computer and iPhone users to select PCB in previous issues of this publication, let’s focus on how to use an Android device to sign up for Amazon Smile.

  1. If you have the latest version of the Amazon Shopping App, open the App on your Android device.
  2. View Settings and select AmazonSmile.
  3. Follow the in-App instructions to complete the process to select Pennsylvania Council of the Blind.

Enjoy your Amazon shopping and don’t forget about PCB.

The PCB Calendar Raffle was successful this year. There are plans for a 2020 raffle. Chapters and individual peers can contact the PCB office in late December to order tickets to sell.

Don’t forget about the Monthly Monetary Support (MMS) fundraising contest. The contest started Tuesday, October 1, 2019, and ends Friday, January 17, 2020. There will be a 1st prize of $100 and a 2nd prize of $50. To enter the contest, you contribute a minimum of $10 or more per month, but whatever you give, it will be split 50 – 50 between ACB and PCB. Your initial entry of $10 will place your name in the hat one time, but your name will be entered once for every additional $5. In addition, everyone joining the MMS program will be automatically entered in the yearly grand prize drawing after the 2020 ACB Conference and Convention.

If you would like to begin or increase a monthly donation via the MMS program, let George Holiday know and he will have the financial staff in ACB’s Minnesota office get in touch with you. ACB processes all the MMS donations and then sends PCB a check each quarter for the contributed funds. Remember, all MMS contributions are tax deductible, and anyone can donate.

If you wish to enter the MMS contest, or if you have questions about any fundraising activities, contact me, George Holliday at george.holliday@comcast.net or 215-796-9813. On behalf of the PCB Fund Development Team, I wish you a happy holiday season.
