By Tony Swartz, Nominating Team
In the summer edition of The PCB Advocate, the Nominating Team requested members interested in declaring themselves as candidates for this year’s elections to submit a statement of intent and a biographical note. By the deadline of August 7th, the Team received eleven statements of declaration for the five officer positions and, at the time, four open positions for the board of directors. With Roberta Simmons deciding not to seek a second term as second Vice President, and with current board member, Christine Hunsinger, announcing her candidacy for the position of second vice president, it may come to pass that an election for a fifth board position may be necessary. As specified in our bylaws, all positions are two-year terms.
Rather than holding a candidates’ forum at this year’s conference, as in 2016, the Nominating Team chose to have each candidate prepare and record a statement based on questions submitted by the Nominating Team. These questions included one mandatory question for those seeking election as officers, and one mandatory question for those seeking election to the board of directors. In addition, all candidates were given the choice of responding to one of two additional questions. The questions posed to 2017 candidates follow.
Mandatory question for officer candidates: What do you see as your role and your greatest responsibility for the office you seek?
Mandatory question for board candidates: What do you see as your role and your greatest responsibility as a member of the board of directors of PCB?
In addition, officer and board candidates were given a choice to respond to one of the following questions:
1. What do you believe is your most important attribute which will assist you as a member of the board of directors of PCB and why?
2. As a member of the board of directors of PCB, is there an initiative of our organization’s mission or administration to which you will dedicate your efforts or expertise?
The declared candidates seeking election to officer positions are:
Susan Lichtenfels, president,
Jule Ann Lieberman, 1st vice president,
Christine Hunsinger, 2nd vice president,
Jacqueline Wissinger, secretary,
Michael Zaken, Treasurer.
The declared candidates seeking election to the board of directors are:
Thomas Reid, incumbent,
The recorded statements are posted on the PCB website. In addition, the candidate statements may also be accessed from the PCB Announce Line number at: 773-572-6314, select option 6. For those receiving The PCB Advocate on cartridge, candidate statements will be included as content after the conclusion of this issue.
The Nominating Team will first determine then announce its slate of candidates in mid-October. Those individuals not included on the slate are encouraged to seek nomination from the floor as are members of the organization who are interested in serving as an officer or member of the board, but who have not yet declared as a candidate.
